12:47 pm - Great title or the greatest title

While doing research for a project loosely about liminal bodies and technology I've stumbled upon an article with a truly amazing title. I must truly praise Eric Dietrich for coming up with “Some Strangeness in the Proportion, or How to stop worrying and learn to love the Mechanistic Forces of Darkness."

What the hell is up with the Chicago police that they send plain clothes officers to buildings at 2:30 in the morning to ring the first doorbell they find (mine) to report that someone (who is out of town, I don't know well, and doesn't live in my apartment) had their stolen scooter (which nobody told me was stolen) found. Needless to say I did not believe that they were real cops (despite the fact that they were big white dudes who were clearly out of place in my neighborhood) and have done very little to ingratiate myself to the local authorities (Quote: "Next time you need help call the federal police"), I did eventually let them in because they were being a major nuisance and my upstairs neighbor told them that she wasn't here and they left. 10 minutes later a uniformed cop drove by shining lights into the the buildings next door, honking his sirens and asking for my buildings address, he was here for the same call and I ran out and said that she's not in and we've already been told about it, he was older more polite and left.

Tonight I was told that Sadie Benning is going to be guest faculty next semester. I hope she presents/talks about her work.

06:47 pm - Living.

I've been in Chicago for a little over a week and have finally gotten the internet in my house and my bicycle. I've been more or less a shut in this last week partially because all of my friends are either busy, sick, stressed out, in love, or some dreadful combination and partially from my lack of internet access and being not able to find out cool goings on (and how to get there). The result of this is that I've been doing a lot of drawing and sketching out ideas for new projects (look forward to accounts of edible emotions, ghost cities populated by spies and transvestites and transvestite spies, and an assinatrix sleeper cell consisting of Little Debbie and the Morton Salt Girl). I've also been watching endless Twilight Zone episodes with Lily (and drinking a fair amount of wine).

My room and apartment are nice. My room is modern and catches the afternoon/evening sun really well. Our living room is a bit cluttered with boxes but our salon/screening room is pretty brilliant and once we get a couch should be perfect. The apartment is located in Humbolt Park, the buildings on either side of us are filled with families and a few blocks away is a decent bar and a cafe. Apart from this, it is relatively isolated (which is fine) and the arrival of my bike has opened things up considerably for me (I'm about a 45 minute walk from any super market and the buses are unreliable, but it's only a 5 minute bike ride).

I'll post my new contact information later this week in a filtered post (or series of e-mails).

Best,
Tess

The new Bruce LaBruce film is fantastic, I think it's his smartest work in a long time and is much prettier than Raspberry Reich or Skin Flick.

I'm going to see the new Bruce LaBruce film at Frameline next Friday with Isaiah. Here's the trailer, it's gay Zombie porn and may not be safe for work:

09:47 am - Pre Summer Fun

It's way too hot in SF right now (though I've heard it's supposed to cool down this weekend) and on thursday as I walked home from work, I saw a perfectly normal looking middle aged woman attempting to seduce a pigeon, eventually demanding that it open its beak and let her kiss it (the pigeon just continued to walk away), the woman soon gave up threw her hands in the air and declared "I REALLY like pigeons!"

For the past 2 months or so I've been working for an agency that gives community support for developmentally disabled adults and this week they've commissioned me to make a short documentary for them for an upcoming conference. The main job I have for the agency involves leading groups of three or four adults on daily activities. It feels somewhat weird to me because it's the first time I've really been put in the position of an authority figure and all the people to whom I'm supposed to be an authority are considerably older than me. Also the job requires me to spend a lot more time outside and interacting with people than I'm used to, but I'm getting better at it and have acquired a little bit of a tan.

Last night I received a letter from the Art Institute notifying me that the F/V/NM faculty has selected me for a major scholarship which will pay for 20% of my tuition for my duration as an MFA student (in addition to the gift aid I've already received from the office of financial aid). This will put me into substantially less debt by the end of things and has quited the nagging voice in the back of my head warning me of MFA induced financial ruin.

Also, I just found out this week that Nestworks has been accepted into MUFF: The Mission Underground Film Festival which I shall post more information about as soon as it becomes available.

I just found out I've been accepted into SAIC's MFA Film/Video/New Media/Time Based Arts program. I'm really excited and need to buy a parka.

I had a dream last night that SAIC and the Military sent me a kit that revealed that all of my art work was part of an elaborate mass mind control machine and that my services have been requested to experiment with and develop new mind control techniques and that somehow I didn't have much choice in the matter.

How much do you think people would pay for intricately hand-drawn flip books (80 pages each, 2.9"x4.1")?
